Sun Room
Pre-Kindergarten Program for 4 year olds
Teachers: Dana Ferrarelli & Lauren Lee
The Sun Room is home to our four-year-olds, where their attention span develops as the school year progresses. During our morning meetings we are able to further explore in science, literature, pre-math, music, movement and language arts, as well as delve into thought-provoking discussions which fours love to do!
After their morning meeting the Sun Room friends participate in teacher-directed activities as well as developmentally appropriate self-directed activities that include dramatic play, creative art, the book nook, science, math, the writing desk, block building, sensory activities, legos, loose parts play and the clay/play dough table.
We work and play cooperatively in small groups to develop our social and emotional skills and to learn how to self-regulate our strong four-year-old feelings. Our teachers help to guide conflicts with the goal of fostering personal responsibility and independent problem-solving.
The Sun Room’s activities are planned with valuing sustained, engaged play along with the teachers’ intentional introduction of materials after careful observations, They are intended to create community, foster the love of learning and allow in each child an opportunity to express him/herself in their present moment.
